Protect Your Roofs Against Water Damage Using Paints

February 9th, 2010

The unpalatable truth is that like everything else roofs do not last forever but tend to wear and tear with time. Regular caring of the roof is a must. However, neglected roofs can cause leaks and fissures. Water stains on a ceiling can cause an unsightly focal point. Rather than going for, total replacement of the roof why not looking for another option.

Having repaired the cause for leak, you can cover the blemish caused due to water leaks. Well, this saves the homeowners from overhead expenses. The article highlights some of the important steps to do the work more efficiently. For this, you don\’t need to call in a roofer also.

Let us begin with the job, however, one should ensure that he has all the items like bleach, towel, brushes, primer and paint that are needed for it.

Detach the corrupt or tainted tile from the roof and place it over a towel. Make sure, you do not keep it over the roof because, this will further affected by the bleaching action. Prepare a mixture of water and bleach in equal quantities and apply it over the blot. Scrub the stain and you are done with the cleaning.

However, one should take extensive care that you do not over damp the tiles, if those are made up of some absorbent material.

Coat a layer of primer over ceiling tile. Kilz is a popular brand that is used by many for this purpose, but you can use the primer of your choice. Applying primer on the tile will keep the stain inside and will not allow it to seep out.

Let the arrangement dry completely. This will take minimum time of 24 hours. Paint the ceiling tile to match the rest of tiles if they are not pure white. If you can\’t match the color exactly, you may need to paint the entire ceiling to match. Allow to dry for an additional 24 hours before replacing.

Covering the ceiling leaks doesn\’t mean, you need to be a roofer, homeowners can easily install them. However, if someone feels uncomfortable with this home improvement project, roofer can be called for.

Do Vegetables Get Ignored On Your Dinner Table? Feed Your Kids Corn Fritters Instead

February 8th, 2010

Disguising vegetables may be the only way you can get your kids to eat them. One of our favorite ways to turn an ordinary vegetable into a tasty treat is by making Corn Fritters. Even though we struggle getting our kids to eat corn, it seems this treat is a winner every time.

With a quick and easy Corn Fritters recipe handy, you can whip up a batch for your family and round out your meal. Of course you want to provide your family with their daily servings of vegetables, and this is one way to get even your most finicky little one to eat their veggies.

It\’s easy to learn how to make Corn Fritters once you have the basics. You don\’t need a deep fryer, a heavy skillet will work just fine. You may want a thermometer to check the oil temperature, but you don\’t absolutely need one if you just stick to the \”sizzle\” method. If the oil sizzles when you put a drop of water in, it\’s probably ready. Keep in mind not to crowd the pan so the temperature stays up where it should. Also, use a good oil that has a high heat tolerance. Peanut oil, safflower oil, and sunflower oil all work well. If you\’re using a deep fryer, just follow their instructions.

There are many varieties of recipes for making Corn Fritters, but all have one thing in common; corn. Depending on the time of year, you can use fresh corn on the cob, canned corn, or frozen corn. Some folks prefer to use creamed corn, while others prefer whole kernel. The amount of milk or liquid you add will depend on this choice.

Another component to a good Corn Fritters recipe is, of course, the flour or other \”sticking\” ingredient. Some recipes call for cornmeal in addition to flour. Some recipes use pancake batter mix which works well, also. You can certainly experiment with these alternatives until you come up with the mixture you like.

Adding a beaten egg in the batter can also add more cohesion to the Corn Fritters. You may also like the additional nutrition that the egg provides. Not all recipes call for an egg, but you can always add one if you like. It won\’t usually hurt to try!

As far as the flavors go, the skies the limit. You can add herbs, garlic, seasonings, onion, or even cheese. Some recipes call for sugar which can change the whole idea of the Corn Fritter from a vegetable to a dessert. Put a little honey alongside the fritters and watch your finicky kids devour their vegetables without a blink!

Making Corn Fritters to disguise corn is only one way to get vegetables onto your child\’s plate. Try mixing a variety of vegetables together for an entirely different fritter treat. A \”Veggie Combo Fritter\” might be fun, especially if you find one vegetable your child likes and mix it in with other veggies to disguise them. Do a little experimenting with the ingredients to see how many different fritters your child will eat.

Anything goes when it comes to getting veggies onto my family\’s dinner table. When my kids won\’t eat a plain old dish of corn, then I\’m up to the challenge. Being creative and being sneaky may just go hand-in-hand when it comes to nutrition. Years from now when my kids ask why I was always making Corn Fritters, I\’ll confess my deception. Until then, I\’ll continue my secret vegetable disguises wherever necessary!

If you\’ve never tried making Corn Fritters, now is the time to learn. Treat your family, and yourself, to this tasty treat today!

A good corn fritters recipe is all you need to start getting vegetables in your little one\’s diet. Find lots of vegetable recipes for kids so you can serve nutritious and delicious meals every day!

All About Waterproofing The Roofs

February 8th, 2010

Roof is the utmost part of your home, not only because it protects your property from the nature elements, but also because it adds beauty and style to your property. Considering roof as the biggest achievement for their house, one should smartly invest into it.

But like any other thing, roofs also demand for timely maintenance. Over time, a neglected roof can lead to roof leaks and fissures. Well, in that case, waterproofing the roofs becomes utmost priority.

Presently, the market provides with various waterproofing techniques and each varies in one aspect to another depending upon the roof style. However, the article highlights steps only to waterproof the slanted roof with tar shingles.

Ladders or scaffolding must be tied into the building and placed on firm ground. Get up to the roof. Winds of worst weather often harm the roofs. So, inspect the direction of harsh winds. Look for the broken shingles or tiles on roof. Also, small mistakes at the time of roof construction lead to certain scoops and ascend in the roof. Water can uphill and slips under the shingles. Therefore, notice such mistakes as well.

Seal the shingles from all sides using a can of silicone sealant in a caulking gun. Ensure that the sealant makes good contact with the shingle keeping no gap under them. No gap under the shingle will prevent water from seeping back into the shingles.

Vent pipes and chimneys and the drains are the most typical places for the debris. See to the causes of the gaps near the holes. Look at the flashing that is used around vents and chimneys to determine if there is bent or poorly sealed sections where wind and rain can run around or through to reach the underlying roof. The ignorance of the muck will lead to repairing of the complete roof.

As far as slanted roofs are concerned, one can find the dips and rises. But when flat roofs are talked about, it is fairly difficult to trace them. Only way out is to spread the waterproofing material evenly on the entire roof.

One should not go for waterproofing the roof without acquiring fair learning about it. Call in the roofers, if facing problem in putting them. Choose them according to your requirement since each differs in some or the other aspect.

Scott Rodgers is a writer with great knowledge on roofer works. He has ample roofing experience all across the nation. His wide and well-spread knowledge has helped in generating a lot of business for East Saint Louis Roofers (Need one? click here!) and Overland Park Roofers (Need one? click here!).
