Although there are more and more gluten-free individuals being identified every day, there are still others who do not believe there is a risk to eating gluten-free foods. However, for individuals suffering from Celiac Disease, gluten-intolerance or both as is the case with most, it can often be a life changing experience. However, whether gluten-free or otherwise, many individuals enjoy cooking. Still, for those attempting to cook gluten-free for the first time, it can sometimes be quite a challenge. However, in time with practice and recipes, most of these home and personal chefs become much better at cooking overall. Thus, making recipes which often taste better than many which one had previously prepared, gluten-free or otherwise.

However, before going on such a diet whether to lose weight or for treatment in association with one of these conditions, one may also want to realize that store bought versions of gluten-free foods can be quite expensive. Therefore, if one is going on the diet for diet alone, one may want to reconsider because one may also never be able to eat wheat, rye or barley in the future should one build up an intolerance when going on the diet without necessity.

Today, there is far more knowledge about both Celiac Disease and gluten-intolerance, though some reports are mixed whereas others have been proven through science. Therefore, while limited, the gluten-free diet does include a variety of options relating to meats, poultry, fish and vegetables, it is merely the wheat, rye and barley which must be eliminated from the diet. Therefore, one may want to choose a rice based vinegar over a barley based one to be on the safe side.

Above all else, Celiac Disease patients and gluten-intolerant individuals can be thankful that the condition, at least for today, is only treated through diet and not expensive prescription medication. For, the cost of the gluten-free food alone can often be more than a prescription with regards to treatment. Therefore, if one is careful, eats healthy organic food where possible and avoids wheat, rye and barley, this is a condition which can solely be controlled through diet.

However, in order to do so, one must continually avoid all foods which contain wheat, rye or barley and preferably use corn and rice based foods such as breads, cereals and wraps. Otherwise, one is running a great risk with regards to their health in the future. In addition, those with Celiac Disease are often severely iron deficient and often are anemic beyond most. Therefore, it is important, at least for some of these individuals to take iron supplements in order to replace the iron lost from the lack of bread and other such sources on a gluten-free diet.

Although there are a few research projects ongoing which deal with the issue, most are only in a start up phase and it may be years before any results are realized. Such research includes developing a medication which allows one to eat all the food one loves without having to restrict diet. Of course, one knows how expensive such medication can be. In addition, new medications often have a higher risk of being recalled than medications which have been on the market for some time. Therefore, if one wants to treat oneself with regards to this condition as safely as possible, then diet is the best way to go with regards to such treatment.

To this end, while limited, there is no doubt at least a few gluten-intolerant individuals enjoy cooking gluten-free meals, especially if one adds a few gluten-free cookbooks to their kitchen essentials. In addition, spices such as allspice, curry and sage can really liven up a dish. However, one may want to be careful and realize that near every item on the market which is gluten-free is often twice as expensive or more than those which contain gluten. Also, while some individuals are more intolerant than others, Celiac Disease patients rate at being the most intolerant when it comes to non gluten-free foods. Therefore, one must be careful as often gluten-intolerant individuals end up in the hospital from either colon cancer or other intestinal issues if one continues to eat gluten based foods knowing one has issues with Celiac Disease or gluten-intolerance, or both.
