Do Not Forget About Your Kitchen Blender

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

You may have forgotten that you even own a blender, but if you dig back far enough in the cabinets, there it is. Often we buy a blender for a special occasion and simply never think of how else they can be used so they get pushed back under the cabinet in the appliance graveyard. It is time to resurrect this appliance and put it back to use.

If you cannot find a blender in your cabinet, then perhaps it is time to invest in a new one.

If you have a baby, try making your own baby food. You can place small quantities of the food that you have made for your own family in the blender and puree so that the baby can eat it. It is a much healthier alternative to canned baby food. Soups, stews, vegetables and even chicken breast can all be pureed into baby food in a blender.

Make your own fruit smoothies. Just add some fresh fruit into the blender and blend. Add a few ice cubes, sugar or artificial sweetener and milk. Blend everything up and serve for a tropical treat.

Grind coffee beans. Somewhere along the way, we have got the idea that it takes a special appliance for every task. A blender on the low setting makes a great coffee grinder. Fresh ground coffee has that great taste of all those wonderful coffee shops. Be sure not to blend too long or you can burn your coffee beans.

Grind spices. Once again, use the low setting and grind your own fresh cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, nutmeg or other spices. Freshly ground spices have a much more intense flavor.

You can use your blender to chop nuts. A short blend time will give coarsely ground nuts, a few more seconds gives the fine ground variety. If you want fresh peanut butter, then try making your own in the blender. Add a some roasted peanuts and grind until they turn into peanut butter. Add a few peanuts after the butter forms and grind a little longer for chunky peanut butter.

Try making fluffy scrambled eggs or omelets by using the blender to whip the eggs. You will think you are eating a a really good restaurant for breakfast.

For perfect gravies with no lumps, fill the blender jar half-full of your cooked gravy and blend for a few seconds. The resulting gravy will be perfect every time.

Of course, a blender is great for mixed drinks. It is an essential part of margaritas and pina coladas. Try virgin versions for those who do not drink alcohol. Additionally try freezing juice in ice cube trays and blend with unfrozen juice to make healthy slushies.

One way to ensure that your blender gets more use is to find it a prime place on top of the counter. Unfortunately, sometimes blenders are out of site, out of mind appliances. If you put yours where it can easily be seen, it will remind you of all those great things you can do with a blender. Blenders are great appliances and very useful if you just do not forget that they are there.

Mandy Rogers writes a best blenders blog. She would like to share with you reviews of blenders and how to choose the best blender for your kitchen. She has also included some blender tips in her blog.

Vita Mix Juicer

Monday, March 15th, 2010

In creating an award-winning commercial, you should always Dress for Success. “Our teams wear our pajamas for Christmas,” said Mary Kate Anderson. “Everybody is like, ‘I love your shirt together!”

The women in pink pajamas are a signature style of three-minute infomercial for Vita-Mix juicers created by Mary Kate Anderson, 27, and her sisters, Cambria Anderson, 34, and Melissa Washburn, 32. The sisters filmed in December, and in the online vote last month, won the People’s Choice Award – a grant of $ 5,000 – for Vita-Mix in the whole country “Pitch Me!” video contest.

Vita-Mix is a U.S. company that markets a full line of juicers for mixing and is characterized by its history of advertising on television. After several years of establishing its product line, the company purchased blocks of 30 minutes of airtime in 1950 to announce his Vita Mix juicers using what it claims was the beginning of the first infomercial.

Washburn and Mary Kate Anderson, who lives in Orem, and Cambria Anderson, who lives in Shelley, Idaho, decided to enter the “Step on me!” Contest after learning that Vita-Mix was having a contest by e-mail list.

“We are very important to the healthy lifestyle and diet,” said Washburn. “We use our juicers a few times a day. We thought, ‘Why not? ”

After the meeting in Idaho for Christmas, the presentation of the video of their sisters was filmed all in one afternoon with a tripod and video camera. There was only one problem: “We wanted to show everyone a recipe,” said Washburn, “but only had enough ingredients to do it once. So I had one shot. ”

The three sisters started their juicers at the same time. Oops. “We rehearsed, we pushed it, we all Rant, we begin to mix and cut power,” said Mary Kate Anderson said. Execution of the three juicers overloaded a power circuit, a break in filming. Problem? Not at all.

When Mary Kate Anderson edited the video it was used to provide energy blooper gag-reel finish.

After entering their video in the contest, the sisters wanted to e-mail friends and family and get their vote. Except Cambria Anderson said: “How can you send an email asking people to vote for you so that you can make money?

“We feel this kind of self-service,” said Washburn.

The contest was a completely different meaning, however, after the sisters agreed that if they won they would donate the money for services for LDS humanitarian aid in Haiti. (The sisters have not yet received their reward check, but the plan to give as much money as allowed by tax law.)

Brandon runs the Vita Mix juicer website where he has an in depth review on the Vita Mix 4500.

Friday, February 12th, 2010

The term \”best juicer\” refers not only to the quality and functions but also to the cost at which it can be purchased. People usually want to buy the best equipment and tools but land up in buying a cheaper product because of the cost constraint.

Purchasing an affordable juicer doesn\’t necessarily mean that you are not looking at quality products. It states that you are buying good products at a price that you can afford. The positive aspect of cheap juicer

The first and foremost advantage that one gets from a juicer that is cheap is the lesser price that they need to pay to purchase it. The idea that it\’s not possible to prepare good juices of fruits and vegetables without shelling a lot of money is a completely false. In today\’s world you can buy inexpensive juicers that are made of plastic or wood or metal at prices that are affordable.

A replacement can take place only at your will or if you are bored with it or if it is broken due to negligence or other cheap juicer fascinates you, you still have the option of buying another cheap juicer. But if utilized with proper care there is no way your cheap juicer might give up on you.

The Disadvantages Of A Cheap Juicer

Most of these cheap juicers are made from materials of lesser quality and can be easily damaged. At most times these types of materials deteriorate in the course of time and do not last for a longer time.

Again the hassle of changing the cheap juicer repeatedly becomes quite annoying and to top it all, how many of this cheap juicer are you going to change, even if it costs less? Every change cost you money instead a better buy, with a little bit more money can save you lot of trouble.

Another disadvantage is its limited capabilities. Most of the cheap juicers sold in the market allow for fruit juicing only; they do not accommodate root vegetables or even vegetables alone. Your option on juicing becomes narrowed because of its limited use.

A multifunction juicer perhaps is more advantageous, as long as you are satisfied with it and serves the purpose there is nothing to whine about.

Juicer Recipes – Introduction to Juicing Benefits

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009
by Darren Haynes

An easy way to give your body a high level of great nutrition is by juicing. Many health conscious people have already taken up juicing and praise how wonderful it is. You might now be asking, what is this juicing and what is so great about it?

Three reasons that juicing is so beneficial are:

1) The juice does not require much digestion allowing for all the nutritional goodness to be processed rapidly by your system

2) When you use a juicer you create a drink that is packed full of vitamins and minerals. Juicing allows you to use more fruits and vegetables than you could ever eat in a day therefore providing a great benefit you are missing out on.

3) Detoxify your liver

Below are some health benefits you can expect from juicing:

Improving heart health and the cardiovascular system:

- Antioxidants vitamins E and C help to prevent damage from free radicals on arteries by preventing your blood from sticking and clotting. They also keep the blood non-toxic. Vitamin C is found in most vegetables and fruit and vitamin E is found in blackberries, asparagus, kiwi and spinach used in juicer recipes.

- Magnesium and Potassium are essential minerals needed for a regular heart beat and proper heart function. A great source for both minerals are blackberries.

Liver detoxification is essential for good health:

- The liver has 100s of important functions. One of its main functions is to clean the blood and remove toxins and metabolic waste. With the amount of toxins we are dealing with everyday in modern life we need to be real diligent in helping to keep it clean so it can keep us clean!

- Specific nutrients are required for cleansing the liver. Antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, and N-acetyl cysteine are amazing liver cleansers. Also aiding in liver cleansing are niacin and B-vitamins riboflavin. Vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts are known to be great cleansers for the liver.

- For help with healthy skin, nails, eyes, and hair:

- The antioxidants vitamins E and C prevent damage to the skin from the sun because of their ability to neutralize free radicals. Juicing blueberries and blackberries will give you a great source of both vitamins C and E if used together.

- Greasy hair, cracked lips, hair loss and other skin conditions may be from a deficiency in riboflavin or vitamin B2. Some vegetables such as kale, asparagus, and spinach in your juice will provide you with riboflavin or vitamin B2.

- The most important nutrient for keeping your eyes healthy is Vitamin A. In order to get Vitamin A in your diet you must first consume beta-carotene found in orange fruits and veggies. Beta-carotene is broken down and processed by our body and turned into vitamin A which is essential for the eye to properly function and to discourage night blindness. Both A and C vitamins help to reduce the chance of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Carrot juice is an awesome way to ingest both Vitamins A and C.

Blood cell rebuilding:

- Yes thats right! This is made possible by the incredibly healthy chlorophyll, which would need an article of its own to give justice to its health benefits!

Under a microscope, chlorophyll looks almost identical a component of the red blood cell called hemin. When you assimilate chlorophyll, scientists have discovered that by way of a chemical shift, the chlorophyll actually becomes hemin. Broken down in layman’s terms, this basically means you are getting a blood transfusion when you take chlorophyll.

The reason plants are green is because of chlorophyll. This is why it is so important to put green vegetables in your juicer recipes! It is important to note that the darker the green, the more chlorophyll that vegetable contains.

Improving your immune system:

- Regular and varied juicing is the most beneficial way to give you adequate amounts of antioxidants important for healthy immune systems. The antioxidants from vegetables and fruits include vitamins plus a large range of chemicals called phytochemicals that are derived from plants. Phytochemicals have a variety of health benefits, the most notable being anti-cancer properties.
